The City of Plant City is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Fire Chief to lead its Fire Rescue Department.
Home to (38,220) residents, and comprising 28 square miles, Plant City is ideally located along the Interstate-4 corridor in western central Florida. With a complement of 38 staff members, the City’s Fire Rescue Department currently operates two fire stations and is in the process of building a third station. The City’s Fire Rescue Department is a full-service fire and ALS transport operation, which also provides emergency medical services to the annual Florida Strawberry Festival, an event that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors during its 11-day run.

Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Fire Chief is responsible for providing superior fire and EMS services to our residents and businesses. Additionally, the ideal candidate for this position will:
Possess excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and have prior leadership experience in a Florida fire rescue environment.
Be an innovative leader and a strategic thinker, who is highly capable of leading an ALS transport agency.
Be expected to attain accredited status for the Plant City Fire Rescue Department.
Serve as an integral member of the City’s Executive Leadership Team and be expected to maintain collaborative working relationships with peer department directors.
Provide effective direction and overall operation and administration for the Plant City Fire Rescue Department, inclusive of fire prevention, suppression, investigation, emergency medical services, rescue, hazardous materials, emergency management, fiscal planning/budgeting, and employee engagement and development.
Lead the development and implementation of a strategic vision and plan for the Department in alignment with, and supportive of, the City’s mission and strategic goals.
Foster a collaborative leadership style encouraging teamwork, promoting staff initiative and professional growth opportunities for all departmental staff members.
Promote positive relations for the City and Fire Department through direct public interaction and media relations.
The new Fire Chief is required to have a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in Fire Administration, Fire Science, Public Administration or a related field, along with ten years of progressive leadership experience. Certification as a State of Florida Firefighter/EMT; Fire Officer II, and CPR are also required. Valid Florida Paramedic Certification, Graduate of National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program, and designation as a Chief Fire Officer preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License.
